Hints & Tips
Find answers to common questions about CV writing, job applications, and interview preparations.
-
How long does a typical recruitment process take? The duration of the recruitment process can vary depending on the company and the position, but it typically takes a few weeks to a couple of months.
-
How to negotiate salary? When negotiating salary, research industry standards and be prepared to justify your desired compensation based on your skills and experience. Be clear in your own mind what your minimum salary is but also remember to take into account the wider package such as pension, holidays or healthcare. Negotiation may be possible around these things too to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. Be clear on the minimum salary you're prepared to accept for the right job.
-
What's the primary purpose of a CV?Remember your CV should represent your brand and is your marketing Sales Pitch. It is intended to secure an interview - not provide a reader with every single bit of information in huge amounts of detail for the whole duration of your career. It should focus on the important and relevant for the kind of role you wish to secure.
-
How do I gather references?Choose professional referees who can speak positively about your work experience and skills. Ask them in advance and provide details about the job you are applying for so they can tailor their recommendations. You do not need to state "references available on request" in your CV - if you secure the role - references will be used at that point and you will be asked for their details.
-
How to prepare for an interview? There is a lot of preparation that can be done before even applying for roles. Your history is your history and you need to understand all the evidence you have to share and what's important and relevant. You need to understand all your key selling points and ultimately how that is relevant to the role. If you go through the competency based interview coaching with me, you'll have all of this in place. The result is a confident you - knowing exactly what you need to share in an interview for a specific role. Practice common interview questions, prepare your own questions for the interviewer. Dress appropriately - be aware of your background if your interview is on line, be polite and smile, be on time!
